In America, outbuildings with an area of less than 200 square meters can be classified as sheds. All sheds require zoning approvals. that have an area of more than 100 square meters also require building permits. There are also certain rules for the building of sheds. that are less than 100 square meters need anchors on all four corners. If the sheds are above 100 square meters, then they need four inches of gravel foundation apart from the anchors on all four corners.
This type of lumber is a natural combatant against wood rot due to exposure to moisture. Even when a shed is located in a fairly dry area, naturally occurring moisture in the air can lead to a weakling over time. Insects are another consideration for pressure treated lumber. In areas prone to wood boring pests and termites, pressure treated lumber adds another layer of protection.
We have all seen the Wizard of Oz where a farm storm cellar was used for protection. These were common in the Midwest and Southwest on farms. I haven't seen any here in Idaho.
