There is no mistaking why wooden sheds have become one of the traditional must haves of any household. Aside from the aesthetic beauty they add to the outside of a home, they also serve many purposes. Storage is the most obvious reason why homeowners erect garden sheds. Gardening equipment such as rakes, hoes, buckets, and shovels are some of the most common things you would see in a garden shed. Other than that, the shed can also serve as a safekeeping place for furniture, equipment and extra materials that cannot be stored in the house.
Many of the standard metal roofing materials sold at home stores and lumber yards are rated for higher slope roof but there are products that are designed to work on lower slopes that can be easily purchased at a roofing supply store. The difference in these materials are the shape of the bends on the panels and the thickness of the panels. Even with these two changes the cost for such a small amount of product is not enough to keep one away from using them to get a lower slope and keep the height to a minimum.
Hip style shed roofs are normally used on much larger sheds but you can definitely find 10X10 shed plans that accommodate a hip roof. The hip shed roof is downward facing on all four of its sides and even though they are not common on sheds, you may consider it if your home has a similarly styled roof. Gabel roofed sheds have two symmetrical slopes on either side of the roof. The roof looks like an upside down "V" and it is a common design for many outdoor sheds.
You must have surely heard about the damage lumber mills are causing to rain forest and subsequently to the wildlife and environment by cutting down trees at such a fast rate that they don't get enough time to grow back. Many greener options are available these days. If you are purchasing new lumber check that they have the FSC symbol. You could also try to use as much recycled timber as possible.
