Every roof truss has a board at the top that supports the roof decking. This board is called a top chord. The angle of this part of the roof truss is determined by the slope of the roof.
Sheds can be made of metal, plastic, wood or vinyl. Regardless of the material they are made of, each has benefits and pitfalls.
We have all seen the Wizard of Oz where a farm storm cellar was used for protection. These were common in the Midwest and Southwest on farms. I haven't seen any here in Idaho.
Having a firewood shed plan that encourages air flow is probably the most critical element of the design. Air must move around the wood to both dry it out from its natural moisture content and keep it dry after it is seasoned. If the wood is allowed to remain wet by sitting in a damp place that is very slow to dry out it will rot and grow fungus. The firewood shed encourages air flow around the wood first by having large gaps in the floor of the shed that allow air to easily move through the floor. Having a foundation that lets air into the underside of the floor so it can move up through the holes is another important design factor to keep the air moving. A good firewood shed design will have at least one of the shed walls open to further encourage air flow and to allow easy access to the firewood.
