Measure out the dimensions you've chosen for your structure. This is key to designing successful build your own storm shelters, and don't forget to measure as you dig your hole for the shelter, to ensure that the dimensions are accurate as you go.
Working on a north/south and east/west grid, create a circle of supports. As you fill in the gaps on each directional side you will find that the structure becomes more stable. Choose one area to leave open for your entryway. You can place a few branches or sticks sideways at this area weaving them into the outer supports to reduce the height of this opening. You can close up this opening with a blanket or a garbage bag once you are inside.
Constructing a wooden shed can be a challenge, particularly for those that dislike DIY. Metal sheds can be easily bolted together taking away a lot of the construction hassle. You wont be getting a headache over instructions or having to fiddle with nails and screws. In fact, large metal sheds can be erected in a day or two. In fact, our buildings are based on the Nissen hut and Quonset hut which makes assembly extremely fast to erect. To learn more about the Nissen hut here and the Quonset hut building here.
One night at one a.m. I came on one of my favorite people; a tall, well conditioned 50 year old man who was so devoted to his beautiful Golden Retriever that he slept in his car with the dog in the parking lot every night. Despite everyones best efforts to have him sleep inside the shelter and the dog in the kennel, he patiently repeated in his soft-spoken, eloquent voice that he appreciated the offer, but politely declined.
